Summer is a wonderful time of the year, it’s a time to slow down, enjoy the long summer nights, and spend some more time with old friends and maybe new friends. We seem to be out more doing activities that involve, water and motorized toys. See below for my best summer safety tips.
- Life jackets – these need to be in the boat, as well children that cannot swim or swim well should be wearing one too. Know the water, don’t assume you know the depth, the currents, etc. It’s always important that you have eyes on whomever you are with when they are in the water.
- Keep hydrated – people seem to easily forget this one. Always keep a water jug with you. In our vehicle, we have our emergency water. It’s for when we run out and need refills. Heat stroke can happen quickly and can be prevented. Keep electrolytes up in the heat. Coconut water is a great healthy choice with no additives.
- Wear helmets – many still do not wear a helmet. This is a non-negotiable, if you want to drive any motorized vehicle you must wear a helmet, and the same goes for a bike.
- Lotions & sprays – if you are going to be out for quite some time make sure to put on sunscreen. If you are going to be in the long grass, use a tick spray or bug repellant. When you get indoors make sure to check your clothes and skin for bugs.
- Extras – Make sure you have a first aid kit in the vehicle and loads of bandages. If you are hiking ensure to have bear bells, horns/whistles, extra snacks, etc.
Make this summer one to remember. Be safe and have fun.
