Food prices have gone up and it is important to still eat healthy and well balanced meals.
Here are a few tips to help you continue to eat healthy on a budget.
- Eat What’s in Season – When you eat foods that are in season they tend to cost less than when you eat them out of season. Eat berries in the summer, squashes and apples in the fall etc. If you buy those items out of season they will cost more. I also encourage my clients to stock up and freeze those items so you can have until the next time they are available in season. If you have to buy items out of season, I suggest buying them frozen.
- Coupons/Price Match – Every dollar counts. I don’t believe in being lazy and throwing away money. There are a few staple items I will only buy if they are on sale. There are stores like Walmart and Superstore where you can price match if you have a flyer. Always look for coupons, use them. There are Apps like Checkout 51 where if you buy certain items they feature you get money back. Once you reach a certain limit they will send you a cheque.
- Buy Ripe Fruit – You can buy overripe fruit to make apple sauces, muffins, and smoothies
Make Your Own Everything – Whatever you can make on your own, do it. You will save so much money, but it will also taste better too
